If you’ve followed The Padded Seat for any length of time, you’ll know we’re always on the lookout for unusual places to watch sport.
Whether it’s a padded seat located behind the dugout, the best hospitality lounge in the country, or a seat tucked away somewhere nobody else wants to sit, we love uncovering experiences that make fans stop and say: “Hang on, that’s a bit different.”
So when Heineken approached us with an idea centred around one of the most isolated seats in the UEFA Champions League Final, we knew it was exactly the sort of story our audience would enjoy.
The concept was simple.
Find a fan willing to attend the biggest match in club football completely alone.
A single seat, separated from everyone else, high up inside Budapest’s Puskás Aréna for the UEFA Champions League Final.
Forest Robinson won the competition run by Heineken and was invited to experience the match from what Heineken identified as the stadium’s most isolated seat.
He travelled over 9,600 miles in 24 hours solo from Melbourne Australia in time for the final.
What he didn’t know was that things were about to get a lot less lonely.
After taking his place in the stand, Forest was joined by none other than UEFA Champions League winner Xavi Hernández, who revealed a hidden second seat that had been built into the structure. From there, the experience opened up into a once-in-a-lifetime Champions League Final adventure, including access to Heineken’s Skybox, time spent alongside fellow fans and football legends, and post-match celebrations with pitchside as Paris Saint-Germain lifted the trophy.
For us, this was much more than just running a competition.
The Padded Seat has always been about helping fans discover experiences they never knew existed. Most of our content focuses on hospitality, premium experiences, and unique ways to enjoy live sport, but at its heart the channel has always been about showing different ways to enjoy the fan experience at live events.
This campaign tapped directly into that.
It took something we’d probably all walk past without thinking twice about – a random single seat in a stadium – and turned it into a story about football, connection and shared experiences.
Reflecting on the activation, The Padded Seat founder Kyle Mattison said:
“This is genuinely one of the best things we’ve done at The Padded Seat. We spend so much time showcasing different experiences for fans, but this was an opportunity to actually create one.
Seeing Forest’s reaction throughout the day was brilliant, and the way Heineken brought the whole idea to life was superb. From the moment we first heard the concept, it felt like exactly the sort of story our audience would enjoy because it’s unexpected, it’s football-focused and it centres around the fan.
We’re incredibly grateful to Heineken for involving us and trusting The Padded Seat to help bring the campaign to life. It’s the sort of project that reminds you why we started creating content in the first place.”
